Pre-Pain Management Instructions
You can help us ensure your safety during your upcoming pain management procedure by carefully following these instructions:
- Overlake Surgery Center requires that you have someone over the age of 18 drive you home.
- The Procedure you undergo and/or the sedatives may render you unable to drive due to numbness and/or drowsiness.
- Please do not eat or drink anything for four (4) hours prior to your scheduled arrival time. It is ok to take any necessary heart or blood pressure medications with a sip of water. A serious medical condition can occur if these guidelines are not followed and your procedure may be cancelled and rescheduled.
- Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. Please leave all jewelry and valuables at home.
- Depending on your procedure, you may be asked to stop taking blood thinners prior to your procedure. Please follow your physician’s instructions.
- The day before your procedure, you will receive a call from Overlake Surgery Center informing you of your rights and responsibilities.

Post-Pain Management Procedure General Directions
- You may experience soreness or tenderness at the area of your treatment. Ice maybe used 20-30 minutes every 2 hours.
- You may experience some temporary numbness or weakness from the anesthetic/injection depending on your procedure.
- You will receive specific written instructions from your physician post procedure.
Post Sedation Instructions
- Do not drive a car or operate machinery or power tools until the next morning.
- Do not take tranquilizers or sleeping pills unless specifically ordered by your physician.
- Do not drink any alcohol.
- Do not sign any legal documents.
- Do not assume responsibility in caring for others until you are fully recovered.
- Since you may feel dizzy or light headed from the sedation, and for your own safety, a responsible adult must drive you home.
CALL YOUR PHYSICIAN IF YOU HAVE:
- Pain that is not relieved by medication.
- Excessive bleeding at the injection site that is not stopped with 20 minutes of pressure.
- Fever over 101 degrees Fahrenheit (38.4 Centigrade) .
- Difficulty breathing or speaking .
- Questions about your procedure.
